Radio diaries: I’m interviewing a dog the size of an elephant so my life is made

Monty Dogge

She’s interviewed Prime Ministers, celebrities, criminals and hundreds of fascinating people as a journalist but this time she has a real (poop) scoop.

Chorley FM presenter Nicola be welcoming You Tube star, blogger, children’s book personality and charity champion Monty Dogg and his ‘hooman’ Mark into the Chorley 102.8 FM studio for a chat on Sunday morning as part of her Lie in with Nicola show.

Massive seven-year-old Newfoundland Monty is a celebrity dog who travels all over the country to schools, festivals and charity events, he’s even starred starred in ‘What’s your story, Chorley’.

Currently the mascot for military charity Shoulder to soldier, he helped raise more than £4,000 for the Poppy appeal and regularly visits nursing homes with his owner to deliver presents and offer a shoulder to pat.

Monty, who is a social media star of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with over 6,000 following his daily exploits. has been an official dog blogger at Crufts since 2014 at the request of the kennel club and even brought Princes Street to a standstill in the Edinburgh fringe.

If that’s not enough, he also fund-raises for Hounds for Heroes, Canine Partners, Barnardos, Pilgrim Bandits, and numerous animal rescues and charities.

Nicola said: “I am delighted to welcome Monty and Mark – it’s certainly a first for me and probably for Chorley FM to have a giant dog in the studio.

“I suspect Monty will probably be producing the show in no time.

“We’ll be chatting about all the fantastic work they do and about Monty’s role as star of three children’s books.

“This is a dog who even has his own theme tune and is clearly a completely selfless pooch – I can’t wait to meet him and get his Pawtograph – and yes he actually has one.

“Don’t worry we’ll post lots of pictures on social media!”
